Millennials are crazy about on-demand labor

Today more than 30% of American workers are millennials With Millennials practically owning the labor force these days, businesses are constantly looking for new ways to attract and retain these rising professionals. With the growing gig economy and on-demand labor, millennials are becoming drawn to jump into the workforce. On-demand jobs are appealing to millennials because they offer exactly what they are looking for: flexibility, technology, and no college degree requirement.

Flexibility

The number one factor that attracts millennials to the gig economy is flexibility. Millennials crave flexibility, and it’s shown to be one of the most important factors they evaluate when looking for work. While some businesses still worry about allowing too much flexibility in the workforce, according to a Bentley University study, 77% of millennials believe their level of productivity increases when they have flexible schedules.  Today, millennials have no interest in the traditional 9-to-5 schedule. They would rather set their own hours and be able to work at their own schedule while still getting the job done. Here at Veryable, we understand the importance of having a flexible schedule and that’s why we make this one of our defining characteristics. One of the things that attracts our operators the most is that they know they have the ability to set their own schedule and work wherever they want to work, and however many hours they want to work. Work-life balance is a priority for many Veryable operators, and that’s why they choose to work with Veryable.

Technology

Millennials thrive on technology. More than 96% of millennials say they are always or almost always online. When they need more information, 70% of them turn to a search engine online. Millennials crave convenience and ease of use. According to Nielsen, almost all millennials today have access to a mobile phone, and it is their preferred method of accessing the internet. This makes the Veryable App very appealing to millennials. When we tell them about how our mobile App works, they absolutely love the idea. The Veryable App allows them to bypass the traditional job search process…allowing them to find work in just a matter of days instead of weeks or months.  All they have to do is download the Veryable App and complete their profile.  There are no written applications, pre-screening calls, interviews, etc.  Everything is done through the Veryable App, even getting paid. Can it get any easier than this?

No College, No Problem

Attending college is not cheap by any means and given the amount of loan debt that students are left with, more millennials are having second thoughts about going to college and many believe college isn’t giving them the right solution to their problems. That’s why millennials are all about finding work opportunities where they are not required to have a college degree. On-demand labor is providing this opportunity for them. Although we are not saying college isn’t highly beneficial, our platform takes into consideration other factors when it comes to becoming one of our operators, such as skills. The Veryable App provides work opportunities for all skill levels, and allows operators to choose from beginner, experienced or advanced when setting up your Veryable profile.  If you are responsible and have a good work-ethic, Veryable has work opportunities for you!

Veryable: New Option for Today’s Workforce

The on-demand economy is offering a new set of options for today’s worker.  The “gig economy” has produced options like Uber, Lyft, and TaskRabbit where you can make some extra money on the side giving people rides or running other people’s errands.  Uber drivers in Dallas, for example, can typically make $15-18 per hour as side income, and those that drive full time can earn over $40,000 per year.  The Veryable on-demand model is a bit different though – we are looking beyond “gigs” and building a marketplace that provides you with a continuous stream of on-demand opportunities in manufacturing and warehousing so you can achieve full-time income while creating your own schedule based on your personal needs.

Opportunities Beyond “Gigs”

Veryable is set up to provide everyone with a unique and personal experience.  It can be whatever you want it to be.  If you already work full time from 8 to 5, you should be able to find some side “gigs” on second or third shift to put some extra money in your pocket.  If you are looking for full-time work, Veryable should be able to provide you with enough opportunities to generate a full-time income in excess of $1,000 per week depending on your location and performance reviews.  The main difference between Veryable and the rest is that we are looking to build you a full-time income.  As mentioned in a previous blog called Higher Demands on Manufacturing, we believe on-demand labor is central to the future of manufacturing and our model wants to plug you in directly to countless work opportunities in this new labor environment.

How it Works

If you already have the Veryable mobile App on your phone, you know that we define work differently than what you are probably used to.  Simply put, the work you will find on the App are called “Ops” and these Ops represent specific work opportunities:

— Ops are entered by companies onto the Veryable platform
— Ops can range from approximately 1 hour to 8 hours
— Pay for each Op can either be based on output (pay per unit/task completed) or an hourly wage
— You have the ability to select the Ops you’d like to do
— Companies will select you based on your performance ratings and skills
— Veryable will deposit your pay directly into bank account after you complete the Op
— There are no obligations to work beyond completing that specific Op

Where this gets interesting is that you should have the ability to go back and do that Op again if the company continues to post the work.  You will get faster and more efficient every time, which helps you maximize your income potential.  You also have no obligation to return – you can continue to try new opportunities and broaden your experience and familiarity with multiple companies in the area.

Getting Ahead of the Curve

Your profile information will be the main reason companies will select you for Ops or invite you to bid on Ops.  Every company will be able to see your overall performance ratings from the Ops you’ve done in the past and they will be able to see your stated skills.  During the pilot DFW launch, your profile information will be the best way to make sure you have put your best foot forward.

In the next blog in the series called Your Veryable Profile and Tips for Winning Ops, we give you some guidance on how to get your profile up to date and accurate.  Please have a look and make sure you have added or initiated the following:

Manage Profile: Make sure your contact information is complete
Skill Level: Update your skills based on your prior work experience
Tax Elections: Update your tax election preference
Payment Methods: Input your bank information so your payments can be deposited
Background Check: Takes less than 5 minutes to complete and is totally confidential and secure

Once you have this all complete, you will be all set up to win some work!  Please stay tuned for email updates and notifications through your App as work opportunities begin to grow throughout the rest of February.
