5 Tips on How to Communicate Better on the Job

Relationships fail because partners don’t communicate, and work opportunities can go the same way. Take our advice and focus on improving your communication skills, you can only succeed from there!

Attitude is everything! If you are open to learning with a positive attitude, you are more likely to be asked back to a work opportunity. People will want to be around you if you’re smiling and enjoying your work. Encourage others, work as a team when needed, and let your supervisors know that you’re appreciative of them!

While it’s tempting to talk about your weekend on the shop floor, keep that for your break time. Particularly when speaking with supervisors, stay professional and respectful at all times. Make an intentional effort to show respect and you’ll be respected back.

Supervisors need a job done, but they need it done well. Make sure you are listening to instructions, and don’t be afraid to ask questions if something isn’t clear. Listening is a practiced skill, and will greatly improve your relationships outside of work, too.

You were purposively selected for a work opportunity, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn on the job. Know that constructive criticism is to help you grow, and always be willing to learn something new or improve a skill. If you want to go above and beyond, specifically ask for feedback!

Oftentimes, your non-verbal communication gives away more than your words. Non-verbals include posture, facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, and anything you do with your body. Make sure to be noticing how you hold yourself during your interactions with supervisors.

So, you’re heading to work today! Now that you’ve been given an opportunity with a business, you want to build a good relationship with them. Maybe your op is for a day or maybe it’s for a week, but you never know what the future holds. You may want to work for them in the future, and you definitely want to keep your 5 star rating on the Veryable app so your other work opportunities can increase. How are you using your communication on the job to make sure you represent yourself well?

The Value of a Resume

In today’s competitive job market you need to take advantage of any possible chance you have to stand out and that’s when the value of your resume comes into play. Your resume is your opportunity to show companies what differentiates you from the rest of applicants that are in the exact same position as you are. It can help you answer the number one question that all companies want to know: “why you?’

Statistics show that the average company only spends a few seconds looking at a resume, so it is imperative that it makes an impact. You want to make sure your resume contains the right information that best represents you in order to get a company’s attention.   That’s why Veryable has introduced a built-in resume to track your performance and skills!

First Impressions

If you think about it this way, your resume is basically the first impression you give about yourself, and research has affirmed the importance of first impressions. Researchers have found that people make judgments about such things as trustworthiness, competence, and likability within a fraction of a second after first impressions. Making judgements about others based on our first impressions is certainly natural and wired in our thinking.  That’s why your Veryable resume has been designed to capture the things that companies care about most, like timeliness, safety, and the quality of your work.

The Halo Effect

The impact of first impressions is related to something called the “halo effect,” that phenomenon when our impression of someone is skewed by one positive trait This means that if you make a good impression based on the information on your resume, this will give rise to an overall good perception of you by the companies posting Ops.  Consequently, this could increase your chances of winning Ops! . Once an initial impression is made, it can be nearly impossible to change it inside people’s mind, so make sure you perform well in your Ops and continue building up your resume.

Bottom line is, you should never underestimate the importance of having a good resume and the impact that this can create on companies.  The Veryable resume is a fresh approach to resumes and an approach based on real performance and skills.  Please take the time to update your skills and experience in the profile section of your App to set up your resume for the best possible first impression.

Your Veryable Profile and Tips for Winning Ops

The information in your Veryable profile will be the way you make yourself most marketable and get selected for the Ops you want.  Companies that post Ops and select operators to fulfil those Ops will be looking for the best operators: those that have received great performance ratings from prior Ops and those that have the most relevant skills and experience.  This blog is a continuation from a prior blog called Veryable: New Option for Today’s Workforce and intends to walk through some tips to make your profile as attractive as possible.

Start from your Account Menu

When you open your App, you should immediately see the Dashboard screen that shows all of the available Ops in your area.  To access your Account and Profile information, click the icon in the top left corner and that will take you to your Account menu.

Step 1: Manage Profile

The 1st step is to make sure that your profile information is correct and up to date.  From the Account Screen go to Manage Profile.  Aside from your name, this information is kept confidential and will only be used to make sure you get paid.

Step 2: Skill Level

The 2nd step is to describe your skills.  This step is very important since this information will be visible to companies.  We use four general categories for skills and you have the ability to describe your level of experience for each skill.

— Machining: manual machine operation, automated machine operation, washing, deburring, etc.
— Assembly: small subassembly, product assembly, reassembly/repair, etc.
— Warehousing: part stocking, pick-pack-ship, material handling, kitting, etc.
— Electrical/Test: point to point wiring, wire harness assembly, inspection, test equipment operation, etc.

Step 3: Tax Elections

The 3rd step is to select your tax preferences.  There are two choices: you can elect to do all your tax withholdings yourself or elect to have Veryable withhold your taxes.

Step 4: Payment Methods

The 4th step is to input your bank information so we can deposit your pay when you complete Ops.  This information is kept completely confidential and secure.  You can enter either your bank account information or your debit card number.  Entering your deposit information is required before you can perform any Ops since we have to have a method to pay you immediately following the completion of the Op.  We will not be able to mail paper checks since we are committed to paying you for the Op that day.

Step 5: Background Check

The 5th and last step is to initiate your background check.  This is also a mandatory step and must be completed before you can perform any Ops.  It takes less than 5 minutes to complete and only requires some basic personal information.  Similar to your bank information, your background check will be kept 100% secure and confidential.  It will take approximately 2 days to process, so please initiate the background check as soon as possible so you do not have to wait long to get to work.

Once you enter your information, you will be directed to a couple authorization screens from our partner, which is the same service that Uber uses for background checks.  You will be notified via email and through the App once the background check is complete.
